Rudy vs. Huckabee
Andrew Sullivan posts a readers comment and then adds to it. I think the reader is onto something. Rudy and Huckabee could signal a permanent break up within the GOP between the religious and secularists. This tension has been building slowly but surely and I think it is at the breaking point. George W. Bush held the two groups together largely due to 9-11, but also through relatively friendly ties with Wall Street. Huckabee represents new movement all together. A movement that could appropriately be labeled Christian Socialism. A movement that believes God calls us to use government as a tool to remake people in Christ's image. And not just through draconian social constraints and toned down war mongering but also with the assistance of a punishing increase in government spending on a scale that could make W. blush. A truly chilling set of ideas that is at odds with the life and message of Jesus Christ. And again maybe the ends justifies the means with respect to Rudy Guiliani's cynical use of 9-11 and terrorism. I prefer him at this point.
