This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education.
Not sure why this would be. On an anecdotal level, liberals seem to be somewhat more self aware and see the world in a more complex light. Maybe this tempers their optimism. But I do not feel comfortable widening that observation to cover the whole country because I live in one homogeneous region, which clearly and significantly distorts my view.
