The dumbass Christian-I'll-vote-for-anyone-opposed-to-abortion-no-matter-what-his-credentials-or-stances-on-more-pressing-and-relevant-issues vote

RYAN did a great job coming up with a catchy name to categorize at least 25% of Republican primary voters. I truly understand the feelings of pro-life advocates. And I for one am wholeheartedly against the use of partial birth abortion. It is a ghastly procedure that has no place in a civilized society. But let's talk about first trimester abortions. Do I like the fact that they occur? No. But I think there is a difference between a fetus in the first trimester and one which can survive outside the womb. But regardless of this, why vote on this one issue? If Roe v. Wade is overturned the issue will be taken up by individual states. A healthy majority of which will remain pro-choice. And the remaining pro-life states will be left with a few large problems to say the least. One of these is figuring out how to prosecute women that have abortions. More to the point, are we really going to send a college educated businesswoman to jail because she forgot her birth control pill one day and ended up with an unwanted pregnancy? Or would we send a terrified pregnant 18 year old woman to the electric chair for terminating her pregnancy. I suppose the answer would be to prosecute the doctors. Well that raises another concern.

Women that live in a state which prohibit abortions can travel to a pro-choice state. The doctor would not be liable. And then there is the question of all questions. If abortion is outlawed with no exceptions (like many would like)what do we do about rape? This is where a burning hatred comes between me and pro-lifers. Does some neo-fascist dare suggest that a woman who is raped be forced to give birth to the child? What if the girl was 15? It does happen. I suppose that some would tell the victimized woman that the rape was in God's wonderful plan for her life. Looking at the whole picture I think it is clear that voting based on this single issue is futile. In fact, studies show that countries that prohibit abortion have the same rate of abortions as countries who allow them. The End.
