GOP Primary

Spend a few minutes on YouTube browsing through campaign ads for the GOP candidates and it becomes apparent that religion, gays and abortion overshadow all other policy issues. You see little to no mention of foreign policy, economic policy or environmental policy. This is disheartening. I believe on issues like health care and the environment we need free market alternatives to the Democrat's plans for a further expansion of government. It is sad that the GOP is enslaved to the religious right but Rove and others helped make this bed now they must lie in it. They certainly did not think religious voters would gain this much control. In the past the GOP gave orders and Christians followed. Now the tables are turned and the specter of the folksy, populist Huckabee haunts Wall Street and limited government secularists who usually vote Republican. As I have said before the tectonic plates of the GOP are shifting and a schism is looming. Huckabee was bound to occur sooner or later. Christian voters have helped turn the GOP towards big government on foreign policy, privacy and government spending. The next phase of this is most likely an increase in protectionism, xenophobia (interestingly Huckabee defies them on this issue thus far), and extreme religious demagoguery. Too bad the vessel for the otherside is Rudy. Save us Colin Powell.
