No Country for Old Men

Wonderful film. I saw it on Wednesday and then again tonight with Mallory. I would say it is the best movie of the year thus far. One of the best things about this movie is the lack of a score. Instead you get to hear the natural sounds of desolate settings in west Texas. It is haunting. The existentialist view of humanity that the movie takes leads one to despair but it also feels refreshing and honest. I suppose some go to the movies for a good time. A way to escape the real world and thus they feel entitled to a happy ending. I also love escapist fantasy but many times I rather a film make you go home and think. And this one does the job. But you may dislike it. I give you permission. In fact the woman in front of Mallory said "that was the most pointless movie I have ever seen" as the ending credits came on the screen. But there will always been movies such as "Wild Hogs" to keep her entertained.
